We collect work by African writers for our publications. The best way to get an idea of our style is to first read the contents of kwani? Our editorial panel normally has two reading periods each year. Please follow the guidelines below:

Attach your stories to your email; please do not paste the story into the body of the email. The attachment must be in either MS Word (*.doc) or Rich Text Format (*.rtf).

Use double spacing and font Times New Roman, size 12 on a plain white

background (no colour please).

The document should be paginated and have left and right margins of at least 1" (one inch).

While the content of our journal is generally reflective of the Kenyan cultural scene, we do accept, at the discretion of the editors, stories from non-Kenyan writers that fit our profile. We prefer to work with unpublished work, but are willing to publish exceptional pieces that have not yet been published in Kenya.

We request first time Kenyan rights from our writers, as well as one time web rights. If we do publish your work, the work may be published elsewhere one month after publication in Kwani.

Please note that due to the large volume of work received, we are unable to respond to all submissions individually.

If submitting your work via email, send it to submissions@kwani.org

If you are unable to send your work via email, you may deliver it to our offices at:

Suite 1S, 1st Floor
Madonna House,
(Opposite Soin Arcade)
Westlands Road
Westlands

or post to:

The Submissions Editor,
Kwani Trust,
P. O. Box 2895,
Nairobi 00100.

If you have an idea you would like us to commission, please draft the idea down in less than a page, and email it to submissions@kwani.org , with the subject NEW IDEA.
