Kwani Trust was established in 2003 by eminent Kenyan writer, Binyavanga Wainaina (winner of the 2002 Caine Prize) and a cohort of Kenyan writers. It is dedicated to nurturing and developing Kenya’s and Africa’s intellectual, creative and imagination resources through strategic literary interventions. Kwani Trust houses and distributes literary products and services globally; and since inception, has been at the forefront in publishing contemporary creative fiction, nonfiction and poetry.
Among the notable writers published in the journal Kwani? include writer Chimamanda NgoziAdichie, author of ‘Half of a Yellow Sun’ and ‘Purple Hibiscus’. In addition, Kwani? has tackled hot-button issues, most notably the Post Election Violence in Kenya which followed the December 2007 elections. Kwani? has also included within its output graphic narratives, and is due to launch a graphic novel.
