Kenya's Nubians: Then & Now

Kenya's Nubians: Then & Now by photographer Greg Constantine with Foreword by Yash Pal Ghai and Introduction by Korir Sing'Oei

The book Kenya's Nubians follows two successful exhibitions in Nairobi at the Go Down Arts Centre and HOST Gallery in London in 2010. Kenya's Nubians: Then & Now was shortlisted for the Amnesty International Media Award for Photojournalism in the UK in 2011 and was selected by the Open Society Institute for their annual exhibition, Moving Walls 19, which is now being shown in New York City and will travel to Washington DC in late 2012. The book is distributed in East Africa by Kwani Trust.

About the Book: Historically, the Nubians have been unrecognized and one of Kenya's most invisible and under-represented communities. Kenya's Nubians: Then & Now combines rare, historical photographs of the Nubian community dating back to 1908 with Constantine's recent work on the community's struggle for recognition. The book highlights the Nubian's history in Kenya yet also exposes what the community has lost as a result of statelessness and any number of other injustices.
