Petina Gappah Wins The Guardian First Book Award

Kwani Trust would like to take this opportunity to congratulate Zimbabwean writer, Petina Gappah, on winning the Guardian First Book Award. Petina became well known amongst contemporary Kenyan writers when she first attended Kwani Litfest 2006 and was subsequently part of the Storymoja Hay Festival, 2009. The title story of her collection, Elegy For Easterly, appears in Kwani 5 Part 2, now available in bookshops. In an e-mail to a Kwani editor several weeks ago she said she was waiting with great anxiety for this day. The moment has come. Congratulations Petina.
