From
the overwhelming critical and commercial success of Kwani? 01 came
Kwani? 02 (2004) whose main contents showcase contemporary literary
Kenyan concerns and themed on the question of identity. Building on the
first issue, Kwani?2 offers all of Kwani? 01 and much more - if Kwani?
01 has a dearth of creative excitement, Kwani? 02 mirrors the
post-millenial angst of young Kenyan writers, poets, cartoonists and
photographers. And once again Kwani? featured in the Caine Prize for
Writing when Parselelo Kantai's ‘Comrade Lemma and the Jerusalem Boys
Band' in Kwani? 02 was shortlisted. Uwem Akpan's ‘An Ex-mas Feast'
which also appears in Kwani? 02 has since been reworked and published
in ‘The New Yorker.'
