The multi-talented Checkmate Mido is a poet, human beatbox, hiphop artist and thespian based in Nairobi, Kenya. He is widely known for incorporating beatboxing and deft rhyming techniques into his poetry and music.

He has been actively performing since 2008 at WAPI! (Words and Pictures- A youth forum) and has graced many performance venues in and out of the Country most notably Samosa Arts Festival (Kenya), Storymoja Hay Festival (Kenya), NuVo Arts Festival (Uganda), Festival du Theatre Des Realites (Mali), SPOKEN WOR:L:DS (Germany).

He has since released a collaboration album with his longtime friend Kennah in 2010 dubbed 'Broken City', a solo EP titled Beatbox for My Valentine (2013) and is featured in the compilation album 'SPOKEN WOR:L:DS' (2014).

He had a successful acting debut as the main character in the play Mayor's Diary in 2011 and has since then undergone intense performance training with The Theatre Company of Kenya as well as appearing in numerous plays. Most recently he has directed and provided music for Kimbia, a play celebrating the renowned Kenyan athletes and HERO: Ololosokuan a performance created around the pre-colonial names given to places around Kenya by the Maasai.

Apart from his performances, he teaches expression through the performance arts at the Hanne Howard Fund Lenana, a home for orphans and underprivileged children.
