When Tom Maliti grows up he wants to be a writer. While he awaits his muse, he has spent the past two decades or so as a hack, working for media organizations in Africa and Asia. Later, he was part of a team of journalists that started Pakistan's first weekend newspaper, The News on Sunday. He has served as editor of EXECUTIVE, a business magazine in Kenya; expression Today, a media and human rights journal and the African Woman and Child Feature Service. At present he is a correspondent for The Associated Press in its East Africa Bureau. Maliti has been the chairman of the board of Kwani Trust since 2003.
