margin-right: 10px;We are pleased to inform you that Kwani Trust has selected 8 writers for the 2015 North Kenya Writing Workshop to be held September 25th-28th in Isiolo. Kwani Trust plans to put together a collection of essays, fiction, creative non-fiction, poetry, testimonials, and photography based on Northern Kenya.

These will be part of an up-coming edition of Kwani’s flagship journal that will explore various themes emerging in Kenya after the 2013 general elections, including ongoing debates about and on Northern Kenya. The project’s main point of departure is how the work of Kwani? that relies on contemporary and alternative forms of creative and literary work can address ongoing issues in Northern Kenya.

We had invited writers who are interested in attending the workshop to submit a creative writing sample (fiction or non-fiction) of no more than 3000 words. The workshop will broadly explore what new narratives can emerge from Northern Kenya.

The four-day workshop will allow the writers enough time to present and discuss their creative writing and learn aspects of the creative writer’s craft.

These are the writers selected for the workshop:

  1. Maryama Farah
  2. Adow. K. Jubat
  3. Fuad Abdirahman
  4. Abdullahi Shongolo
  5. Martin Korlete
  6. Esther Halake
  7. Asad Hussein
  8. Caroline Akai
